An Unproductive Meeting - National Sales Meeting
I was talking to a nice lady on a plane to Denver the other day about her unproductive meetings and she told me this story I couldn’t believe. She said every Monday morning, for two hours, she and 60 of her coworkers sit on a conference call for a national sales meeting. Each team gets 2-3 minutes to discuss where they stand, how well they are/aren’t doing, and then the rest of the time they listen. Or as she stated, “Check out and play Solitaire.”
60 people for 2 hours and then only contribute for 2 minutes? Yuck!
Let’s do some math.
60 people x 2 hours = 120 hours of time = 3 weeks of time spent.
Or another way:
60 people x average hourly salary $60 = $3600 x 2 hours = $7200 bucks!
Is that meeting really that valuable to have? Have you asked the participants if they believe it is? When you put some simple numbers to what people are dealing with day in, day out the point seems to be easily made. How are your meetings unproductive?
