Test driving Ruby on Rails
So for a while now I’ve been thinking about trying to do some development work on my own just because I do a fair bit with this website and have gotten MUCH more comfortable with [tag]html[/tag] ,[tag]css[/tag] and even a little [tag]php[/tag] and [tag]javascript[/tag]. So when the designer/developer community started talking about Ruby on Rails and how easy it is to bulid web apps I was all ears. I’ve gone through the demos and some examples they had to build stupid stuff like a cookbook creator and a blog and it was surprisingly easy. Especially with me not doing anything programming related since early in my college career.
Another reason is because at my job I’m currently doing product management over a [tag].Net[/tag] application that is quickly becoming quite a bear to control due to the proprietary beast that is M$. Not to mention we have outside developers doing alot of the work so it is hard to do the kind of changes we want fast enough, faster iteration is key, especially in a new web app.
So I’ve ordered a couple of ruby books and plan on hitting them hard and seeing what comes out of it. Got a couple of projects already floating around in my head too so I’m interested to see how it’ll turn out. Stay tuned…
