Gastric Bypass | Hitting a Plateau
Hey folks, alright so update about my gastric bypass. I’ve hit a wall. BOOM! Plateau. I’m down to 185 now (which is 15 pounds lighter than my goal weight) but have stopped losing weight and have been around this weight for almost a month now. So, here’s my rundown on the internal debate that going on in my head:
1) So what? You’re at 185 pounds dude, you’re healthy, feeling great, and you really don’t need to lose anymore weight! Stop complaining!
2) Well, let’s diagnose the issue, is it working out? I’ve been working out 3 to 4 times a week but maybe I’m not pushing myself hard enough? Not running long enough?
3) My food could be better I suppose….been eating some Mexican food and Pizza at times. But I’m pretty sure my caloric intake isn’t excessive. Might ought to work on tracking that better.
4) I’ve recently gotten a bit of a Starbucks addiction. It started out just once in a while and now it’s like every other day. I’m a fan of the Pumpkin Spice Latte (yum!) and of course I sometimes end up getting a piece of coffee cake or something while I’m there. Well, I did the calorie calculation and a Grande PSL is like 410 calories not including the stupid coffee cake! Yikes, that’s over 1600 calories with the coffee alone! Note: Since finding that out I’m now limiting myself to once per week only. It’s working so far, only being a week in that is.
So I dunno, should I be concerned? I still have fat on my body (recent test showed me at 13.1% body fat) and some of its a little extra skin (thankfully I didn’t get it too badly) but should I even be concerned?
Well, I’m not going to dwell on it too much right now. I’ve got bigger things on the horizon. And I mean that quite literally because tomorrow morning….I’m going skydiving! This has been my goal since having the surgery! I knew I had to be under 200 pounds to jump so that is what I’ve been working towards. Well, the time is now and I’m so excited! My friend Chris and I are getting up early tomorrow morning and heading out to Sky Dive Dallas to do a tandem jump. I’m getting the video and pictures packages so stay tuned for that.
UPDATE: So I took my own advice after being slightly frustrated about my weight loss and looked at my measurements. That’s a more accurate view anyway since you have the whole fat loss along with the displacement of muscle and I’m happy to say there was progress!
Date | Weight | Chest | Abd | Hips | Arm |
| 11/15/07 | 189 | 38.75 | 36.75 | 39 | 13 |
| 9/25/07 | 192 | 39.50 | 37.50 | 39.75 | 13.25 |
| 9/2/07 | 195 | 39.75 | 38 | 40 | 13.50 |
Looks like I’ve lost 3/4” on my chest, abs, and hips and about a 1/4” on my arms (my biceps are losing inches for sure but are definitely more defined than before). So I update to say this, don’t lose faith based on weight alone, check your measurements to get a better indication on where you stand. Good luck everyone!
